Face to Face With Adolph Mongo: Mayoral Candidate James Craig -- 'I Established a Strong Reputation Here as the Detroit Police Chief'

Ex-Detroit Police Chief James Craig, who is running for mayor, hopes to capitalize on his years as police chief. He served as chief from 2013 to 2021.

"I established a strong reputation here as the Detroit police chief," Craig told Adolph Mongo in a special edition of Detroit in Black and White on Friday. "People know me. They understood and watched me lead for eight years."

Craig said he also hopes voters don't put him "in a box" and only look at him as a Republican, though he's proud to be one.

He realizes the last Republican mayor of Detroit was Louis C. Miriani, who was first elected in the 1950s.
